I recently setup a WRT54GL modem with a specially hacked version of the Tomato firmware in an effort to evade Bell Canada’s throttling (yes, it works). I’ll use this post to talk about any hints I have for anyone trying it themselves.
(I’ll write up the experience soon)
In setting ip dnsmasq, I ran across this helpful post. I just want to add that you have to reboot the modem to get the jffs filesystem mounted before writing the hosts file. If you do it before, you’ll lose your file.

Thanks for the hint — I didn’t remember having to reboot the modem. I’ve added a sentence telling people to go ahead and reboot after changing the JFFS setting. Hopefully, thanks to you, others will be able to get through the process with one less hangup.
awesome post worked great thanks
